Hike #62; Easton to Washington

 Hike #62

Hike 62

Union Square, Phillipsburg

7/10/2

Cathy was hiking with me quite a lot, and I figured that since she’d done so many of the

hikes, it was time to bring her on the Easton one.

My grandmother dropped us off at Union Square, Phillipsburg, and we followed the same

route we used the previous February, save for the exploring in the rail yard site, as well as

the scrap yard. When we’d reached the site of the LV railroad depot off Bushkill Drive, a

man came out and informed us to stay off the land. When we’d told him what we were up

to, he was quite amicable, and gave us the history of his family and how they’d come to

acquire the piece of property.

When we’d reached the opposite side of Bushkill Creek, there was a police officer parked

along the right of way, but he did not stop us from walking, though it seemed as if we

should not have been there.

All went normally through Easton and Palmer area, and we stopped at a burger place

we’d stopped at previously to eat. We think it was called Richards. One thing we did

differently was to walk roads parallel to the railroad bed rather than fighting through the

insane weeds we’d done previously. Still, we crossed the half mile long LV south Easton

Trestle again, as well as the Delaware Trestle. We also stopped at 7-11 again in

Phillipsburg for more refreshments.

As we followed the former Morris and Essex line east, the underground pipeline at New

Village had been dug up, and they were laying new piping.

Cathy was getting very tired, and by the time we reached Washington, we walked down

Lincoln ave to Krauszers Food Store to call my mom to pick us up. Unfortunitely, neither

of us had any change! Sarah Trimmer, who I went to high school with, was in there

buying something, and offered us a ride, but after a lot of explaining, the guy running the

place reluctantly let us use his phone to call my mom. A few days later Cathy wanted to

walk that last mile or so back to Lincoln Ave to have covered the whole section.

“Richards.... I thought those burgers SUCKED! They just put all mustard....and they

just....ewww....” -Cathy
