This one was another really fun one as I recall. I'll do my best to remember everything despite the fact that the original entry was lost to thefire in august of 2010.

This hike was to be another Shawangunk Ridge Hike...starting in High Point but ending in Port Jervis. We'd missd a bit of the ridge trail on the previous trip so we opted to do over part of that section with some new stuff involved and it went great.

We started off at the High Point lot for the AT and checked out a cool caterpillar. Katie said it was a Monarch caterpillar but someone told me since that that's not what they look like...whatever it was, it was really pretty.

We followed the AT to the park office and then I think we walked down and around the shore of Lake Marcia to the base of the hill, or maybe we followed the AT, I don't remember, but we got on the Shawangunk Ridge Trail and followed it up to the High Point Monument. This time, the monument was actually open and so we were able to go in and up to the top. The view from the inside of the top of the monument was'nt that great, but it was still fun...and a workout. Katie and I were singing the entire way going through.

After climbing around and goofing off at the monument we continued along the Shawangunk Ridge Trail heading northeast. It took us to the northern end of the Monument Trail and I think followed part of Cedar Swamp Trail and Kuser Trail. We followed a great section of board walk over the cedar swam, supposedly the highest elevation stand of Atlantic White Cedar.

Next, we came back to another portion of the monument trail, followed it briefly, and then turned off of it and descended from the secondary ridge to the north. We'd already followed this section before, but it was still nice. We passed by the state line marker and continued on, checking out a hunter's blind along the way.

We crossed a road and went into the somewhat new section of the Shawangunk Ridge Trail again and took a long break at the view point facing west. I decided it would be funny to moon the traffic on Rt 84 below, and when I looked down a police officer was pulling someone over directly below! How embarrassing. We soon got out of there and continued out to the end of the section.

Instead of continueing along the Shawangunk Ridge Trail ahead like we'd done before past Hathorne Lake, we turned left on Slate Hill Road. From here the plan was to walk the road westbound to the new Minisink Trail. This trail turned off to the right following in part an old woods road. It then left the road and made it's way up onto the Lenape Ridge, a secondary ridge nearer to Port Jervis. We ended up at a great viewpoint over the valley north of Port Jervis. We could see the former Erie Railroad tracks directly below us. I think we turned off of the Minisink Trail onto the other new one, the Lenape Ridge Trail which skirted the southeast side of the ridge. There were some neat views from this as we walked and then descended to Port Jervis. It rejoined the Minisink Trail somewhere in there, and then hit the road. It followed the road to the right across the Neversink River where it dead ended I think at Maple Ave or something. Here we turned onto the Delaware River Memorial Trail and turned left. This took us into Laurel Grove Cemetary.

This was a point I'd wanted to get to through the hikes for a long time. The cemetary itself is interesting enough, but when we reached the end and walked under Rt 84 we reached the marker saying that we were close to the tri state corner of NY, NJ, and PA. By walking slightly down hill toward the beach at the confluence of the Neversink and the Delaware, we were able to reach the true tri state corner. We were all able to stand in three states at once, something many NJ residents do not know is possible.

We went for a swim here. This was an amazing swimming spot because the Delaware River coming in from it's south facing route, and the Neversink with it's southwest facing route, were totally different temperatures. We could swim out in the river on the left and it was warm, but swimming lose to the Neversink side proved to be insanely cold. The Delaware felt like bath water swimming back beyond the line.

We continued on from here along the north end of the cemetary and Katie was shooting acorns out of a little crossbow she'd brought.

When we reached more of the town area we continued north toward the railroad station. We found a caboose standing out in a parking lot and of course had to climb all over it. We also goofed off with a shopping car.

We then went to a restaurant looking for a place for dinner. We were'nt going to go for it, but they told us we could have the lunch menu or something I think it was...a nice enough gesture that we decided to stay and have a good meal.
