My next hike would be yet another spur of the moment afternoon jaunt, this time at Jenny Jump State Forest. Only Amanda Rosenblatt joined me for this one. We began at the state park office on Farview Road, and headed down to the Orchard Trail, and followed it past a small view of the Delaware Water Gap (1) and up to the camp road. We followed the camp road to the Summit Trail, which we followed with good views toward Alphano, Great Meadows and such to the south (2-4), and Del Water Gap to the north. We followed Summit Trail to the Jenny Jump Trail, the newest trail in the park which I'd done before, and followed it along the ridge heading west (5,6). When we reached Hope Great Meadows Road, we crossed and used the rope and steps heading down onto the new unmarked part of the trail (7) and headed west more to the stream crossing. I got stung up by stinging nettle really bad, and opted to try to follow a new side trail down toward Hope that was shown on the maps, but it was tough to follow and did'nt go where I expected it to, and it was very obscure. It led eventually to a corn field (8,9) and Amanda happily ate five ears immediately (10)! I ate one while talking on the phone with Jillane (11,12). We walked out and found a bridge over the Beaver Brook, and I took a dip. We followed the access road out to Rt 519 I guess it was, then walked along that into the middle of the village of Hope. We wandered down in the dark along a nice walkway that skirted the businesses, then went along the brook. We continued off the walkway and onto the roads, heading out to Shiloh Road and then the back way back into Jenny Jump State Forest. It was great walking by the moonlight with the sounds of all the night creatures around us. Amanda said it was her favorite hike ever!
