Hike #22; Sarepta and Belvidere Area

 Hike #22

Hike 22

Near the beginning of the hike near Sarepta NJ.

7/30/2k

Once again I knew I wanted to lead the hike along the Bel Del and L&HR, now beginning

in Sarepta. I started making my regular phone calls to see who I could get to join. While

interest was strong at first, bad weather forecast held some off.

Cathy was originally planning on coming, and Tea Biscuit, Ronald, and I headed out to

Hackettstown (she was living in the Greenview Gardens Apartments) to get her.

Unfortunitely, my car broke down at the Newburg section of Mansfield. We pushed my

car into a gas station, and called Cathy for help.

Cathy drove us to the Belvidere A&P, and shuttled us to Sarepta, after being joined once

again by Jamie Pene, and her then boyfriend Skyler Jermyn, who would later become a

regular on some of my biggest hikes. I was preoccupied for quite a while about my car,

but that soon disappeared.

As we began walking, we found a dead frog, and then crossed over Catherine’s Run. We

decided to pass through the Manunka Chunk Tunnel, ad then headed down the Bel Del

and behind Hoffman LaRoche. As I recall, we must have made a wrong turn in there

somewhere as it took a while. But then again maybe not. We definitely would never follow

the railroad as closely as possible, as the river makes a large jughandle away from

Belvidere and back, and that is what we follow most closely. Also, it began to rain for a

while at this time.

And I fit!

When we’d reached the fence on the Belvidere side of the Hercules site, I easily squeezed

through. It also had stopped raining. We then moved onward to Skoogy’s Deli where we

ate and Tea Biscuit made his proclimation.

Soon, we continued onward and to the L&HR northeast. As we made our way through

the corn fields, Tea Biscuit began asking Jamie all sorts of personal female questions,

which she was obliged to answer with honestyand insight. Tea Biscuit would respond with

a mix of interest and giggles, as well as absurd responses. Most noteably, while everyone

else, including me, were tired and somber, Tea Biscuit began to speak frankly about

masturbating with a spoon, which lightened the mood quite a bit, as he asked “Do I just

rub the spoon against it, do I try to catch stuff with it, should I use a plastic spoon instead

of a metal spoon because a metal spoon is cold, should use the spoon as a dispenser for

lubricant?”. We still to this day ask him about masturbating with spoons.

This time, Tea Biscuit was not alone for his dip in the Pequest in Bridgville, as Skyler

went in too. Unfortunitely, Jamie was not feeling too well, so she and Skyler cut out in

Bridgeville while Tea Biscuit, Ronald, and I continued on. Still, even we did not make it

much farther, as we called Cathy to get us early as well. We were tired, and my car issues

were bothering me too much to continue. Regardless, we still had a fun day.

“Well, we walked through a very large corn field. And I like corn. I was a bit tired but I

could have gone on longer. That’s lame. I could’ve walked that far with one leg.”

-Skyler

“As for my hiking memories......wasn't that the hike where we had to sneak around a

fenced in facility where we weren't supposed to be and I fell down the steep steep hill and

was not only attacked by stinging things but embedded with all sorts of prickly things too?

I think so because I have a picture of me looking wet and miserable and picking things out

of my hand....I should have gone swimming......also I think we cut out in buttzville

because we were by the Crossroads Diner and i had my grandmother came and picked us

up......I also could have walked farther...but I was oh so cranky and rained on.....I should

stop being such a wet blanket. I also remember Tea Biscuit and the masturbating

spoonathon!! That was the best part of the hike! Also the beginning was very pretty and

full of promise.” -Jamie
