Hike #23; Tranquility to Oxford

 Hike #23

Hike 23

Tea Biscuit and I in Allamuchy

8/4/2k

Having missed the first time I did the hike on 6/1/2k, I wanted to bring Tea Biscuit on the

hike from Tranquility. I felt that in order to have a common frame of reference that

everyone I hiked with should have done all the section hikes I had, an attitude I eventually

came to abandon.

Along the former LHR right of way just south of Tranquility

No one else would join on this one, so my grandmother dropped the two of us off at the

Allamuchy-Green fire station in Tranquility once again and we were off.

Aside from a few high weeds and some water in the right of way just south of Tranquility,

it went smoothly. Some of it was easier to follow than previously, including Great

Meadows, where the trees which had fallen over the rail grade had been removed. The

worst part of this hike has always been the ballast rock which is hard on the legs and

knees, particularly a long stretch between the Pequest Trout Hatchery and the Pequest

Furnace site. Another rough spot was just before entering Pequest Wildlife Management

Area at Townsbury where we walked through a hoard of spider webs.

Approaching the Rt 46 underpass for the LHR railroad at Great Meadows Station. It had just recently been cleared.

I found a Tiger Lily. No, I didn't pick it, just showed it to the camera.

Tea Biscuit took a dip in the water just after crossing the Pequest for the last time, then

we made our way up the the DL&W, following it to Oxford and Rita’s General Store,

where our friend from Jordan let us use his phone to have my mom pick us up. It was

around this time that I began to accept that not every hike had to be twenty miles, and I

could cut short to fifteen, which would go on to later become my minimum for counting

long hikes.

Tea Biscuit would often "die", flop to the ground. Sometimes he'd do it on cue like this time.

PICS FROM THIS ONE~~!
