Hike #51

On the edge of the former NYS&W Railroad trestle site, Karamac Trail
Hike 51
3/29/2
For the next hike, I decided to do the Upper Worthington section of the Delaware Water
Gap, because Cathy and Tea Biscuit had not done it yet. I left my car in the Water Gap
after we dropped Cathy’s off at Garvey Springs parking lot where she could cut out.
We began following the route of the long abandoned New York, Susquehanna, and
Western Railroad which Karamac Trail is now routed over.

Continueing on, we passed the
site of the trestle over the Delaware, and then the Karamac Inn ruins to Farview parking
area. We then headed up Farview Trail to the A.T. Tea Biscuit and I ran towards Holly
Springs briefly, but then returned to ascending on the AT to the backpacker site where we
turned down Douglas Trail, continueing to Northwest/Rockcores Trail. We soon reached
Sunfish Drainage Trail. Cathy does’nt do the steep ascents well, so Tea Biscuit dashed up
to the top at high speed. When Cathy and I reached the top, Tea Biscuit was resting along
Sunfish Pond. We then headed along the AT to Garvey Springs Trail down to Rockcores
Trail out to the River Road. We continued on to Cathy’s Honda at the parking lot. Tea
Biscuit and I continued on alone. We also checked out Garvey Spring Falls which was
running pretty strong.

We crossed the grassy yards of the pay camp sites in Worthington State Forest. We ended
up fighting through weeds in order to get to the campsite road along the Delaware. The
previous time we did this hike, Peeps and I stayed on the main road, though this time I
wanted to avoid walking the main road. We continued along the camp road to where it
ended with nice views of the Delaware. An unimproved trail led us along the river back to
Karamac and the Farview parking lot. We then walked the road back to my car. I had been
planning to walk the abandoned Bluff Road, but we instead opted to take the shorter,
easier route.
