For this hike, we met in the morning in Trenton Area, the parking area on Carnegie Road where we'd started the last section of the Delaware and Raritan Canal I'd hiked. This time we'd shuttle as few cars as possible east to Six Mile Run State Park, another preserve I'd yet to cover, do a loop there, and then walk across to the canal and towpath and back to Carnegie Road parking area. There was only one newcomer, named Natasha. Some of the group cut out early along the way at Rocky Hill where there was more parking. I think only Fred, Julie, Gerry, and myself completed the hike. Delotto got a date mid way with Natasha.
We started walking the loop, using a board walk trail a bit, and then heading to a trail along the northern fields. We then returned to the Millstone River and began following the towpath toward Trenton. We stopped to take a couple breaks, and I think Delotto and I checked out one nice side trail that went down to the river.
After Rocky Hill the nicest spot was where the canal towpath was sorrounded by water, canal to left and Carnegie Lake to the right. Quite scenic. Beyond the canal towpath actually crossed a golf course which was also an oddity. I remember my feet actually hurting from this one, probably because of the crushed stone surface of the walkway.
Just before reaching our end point it was neat to walk across a long pedestrian bridge that had been built over Rt 1 nearing Trenton.
