Hike #46
Hike 46

Jake, pretty exhausted between Hazen and Bridgeville.
2/1/2
With another weekday free, I invited Jake Watters to try yet another one of my hikes, this
time the route I had used from Sarepta through Belvidere and east.

Jake on Manunka Chunk Mountain
My grandmother dropped us off in Sarepta, where it immediately began raining. We made
our way over the Manunka Chunk Tunnel, and quickly down the Bel Del. Since Jake’s
family owns King Cole Grove and adjacent lands which butt up to Roche property, we
entered the woods further to the north, making our way along the river. In the area behind
Roche, Jake took a nasty falls, as did I a few times due to slippery and wet conditions.
We passed through Belvidere quickly, and by the time we reached the fields beyond
Hazen, Jake was exhausted. He had’nt been getting much sleep, and the weather was
bringing us down a bit.

The Delaware River north of Belvidere
Just beyond the open field areas, and just before reaching Bridgeville, work was going on
over a new mound with trees planted on top. This turned out to be some sort of sand pit
once again. There are apparently many sand pits and quarries in the region due to the
southernmost point reached by the Wisconsin Glacier during our last ice age.
We had started this hike later than usual, so it was already getting dark early. Rather than
walk the entire distance in the dark we had my grandfather pick us up.
Here's where you can see all of the pictures from this hike:
