The original journal for this hike was lost to the fire that destroyed my house in August 2010. I'm sure someone has a copy of the disc with it, so if you have it please e mail it to me!!!

This hike started with a big party at David "Captain Soup" Campbell's house in Perth Amboy. I promoted it as the "The Totally Happy Captain Soup Extravaganza" or something.

We had a good time at the party. My old friend Aaron Marques showed up, after not seeing him for a few years. Tea Biscuit was also there with Amanda Lance who he'd just started dating. Cathy, my girlfriend at the time was also there as well as "Amish Paul" and Wyatt Hassler, Soup's roommate

, I think Major Tom Conroy was there too...and probably a couple people I can't remember.

We stayed up late, and after I fell asleep Wyatt put all sorts of food all over me. In the morning we got up and began our hike right from Captain Soup's house in Harbourtown I think it was called in Perth Amboy. We walked out of the developement to the Dunkin Donuts on the end of the street, then walked some tracks and roads to the south to the Perth Amboy Train Station. We took the train south from there, along the former route of the New York and Long Branch Railroad of the CNJ, now NJ Transit, down to the town of Long Branch.

On the train, we met up with my friend Christine "Tall One" Roach. She was a freshmen at Warren Hills High School the year after I graduated, and I fast became friends with her when my friend "Bill Bill" Jacqmein and I would pick up our friends from there who were still in school (she's about six feet tall, hence the name). When we arrived at Long Branch we were joined by, Jim "Mr. Buckett" Mathews, and Jim "Uncle Soup" Campbell.

We walked the the beach and headed south. Despite the fact that I had so many shoes from buying them up at the local K Mart closeouts, I forgot to bring any of them and had to buy some at Wal Mart after getting to Captain Soup's. It was weird to be in new shoes. I bought an ugly velcro kind.

On the south side of Long Branch the beach sort of disappeared, giving way to a rocky coast with private yards and such alongside. We had to walk on the backs of people's yards, around fences, and at one point cut through a yard to the dismay of the owners to get to the main street.

We hit some really cool spots along the coastline with huge rocks, and at one point a stream that flowed to the ocean in a widespread patter with interesting sand formations.

We soon came within view of Asbury Park and the beach became wide. We stayed right on the beach until we got to the Asbury Park Casino which at the time was under redevelopement. The original structure still remained but was being completely done over. We stopped for lunch at a little place where I think the service was a little weird. The guy who owned the place made a salad and brought it out insisting that one of us buy it, but we did'nt.

After our break we continued south on the boardwalk. When it ended we followed the nearest inland parallel streets to the railroad tracks. We just continued through the neighborhoods and walked along some of the ponds in the towns. There were some nice little neighborhoods.

Just before getting back to Long Branch we headed along another lake and out to the ocean again. We tried to get back down to the beach but a guard guy at one of the hotels came out and told us we were'nt allowed to access the beach from there. I think we ended up going down anyway.

One of the standout conversations I remember from that one was Mr. Buckett trying to remember an actresses name from a certain movie. The Tall One knew it and said "Hilary Swank?" and he just kept saying he could'nt think of her name. The Tall One continually repeated questioning "Hillary Swank" to which he did'nt answer. Finally he blurted out "HILLARY SWANK! That's what her name is! What kind of name is that anyway? SWANK!!!".

I think after finishing the hike we took the train back to Perth Amboy and hung out at Captain Soup's for a while again. I can't remember totally, but that sounds about right.
