Hike #198
11/29/5
Washington's Crossng Parks-New Hope/Lambertville with Gerry Martiniak

Me on Delaware Canal just south of New Hope
Lost the original journal entry of this to the fire.
Only Gerry and I were on it...surprsingly because it was a nice day.
We left my car at a nice lot behind the hotel in Lambertville and shuttled Gerry's down to Washington's Crossing State Park. I remember freaking out because I'd forgotten my cell phone in my car. Already, after having it this short amount of time, I was freaking out not having it. Terrible.
Anyway, when we'd arrived at Washington's Crossing we made a bit of a loop, heading in to the east then back to the west to the river, in part following the Continental Lane, the original road the army used to get to the Delaware. We then crossed the D&R Canal on the pedestrian bridge, then headed across the Delaware on the Washington's Crossing Bridge to follow the Delaware Canal north. This section was nice pretty, but I unfortunitely was'nt appreciating it much because of my phone issue.
The only place there was bad flooding was at the access point at the base of Bowman's Hill. We continued into New Hope, and just before reaching town some landowners at high end looking apartments had blocked off sections of the towpath we had to climb over. We continued north, and some of the towpath may "officially" have been closed due to flooding or washouts, but it was really all fine as I recall. We got into town and crossed the river back into Lambertville and went to my car to find my phone. After finding it I was quite happy and so Gerry and I headed north to do another little loop with the canal and Bel Del Railroad bed.

Washed out area along the Delaware Canal near Bowman's Hill

Gerry on the old bridge that was once for the Flemington Branch just north of Lambertville.
Doing the last section totally happy made the entire trip seem more enjoyable to me.
