I will try to recall the details of this hike as best I can; I unfortunitely had an accident and erased all photos and journals for a great number of hikes, and I have to do my best to salvage pictures from other discs and such. This was another party/hike. Beginning Saturday night, we gathered at Dave "Captain Soup" Campbell's house and partied all night, only to take trains and a few cars the next day to Asbury Park.

There were a lot of the usual suspects of the hikes at the party, but joining me for the hike were my girlfriend, Cathy Fisher, Dave "Captain Soup" Campbell, DJ Ray Cordts, Christina Manley, "Amish Paul" and Wyatt Hassler, Jim "Mr. Buckett" Mathews, Iannis Garafalo, "Major Tom" Conroy, and "Naaron" Young. We started walking from Captain Soup's place in Harbourtown, part of Perth Amboy, and stopped at the Dunkin Donuts. Captain Soup, DJ Ray, Wyatt, and I ran to the Perth Amboy Station while some took their cars to the beginning of the hike. We just barely made the train, bought our tickets on the platform and got abourd. To my dismay, the conductor told us we'd have to wait for like an hour in Long Branch to switch trains! I was flipping out trying to get a hold of Cathy who was driving down to have us picked up in Long Branch. Fortunitely, when we got to Long Branch, the conductor was wrong and we got back onto another trail south to Asbury Park. We began walking from the station along Lake Avenue alongside Wesley Lake in Asbury Park. There was another woman who had shown up for the hike, but thought she'd be the only woman, so she left. Cathy and Amish Paul decided they would meet us somewhere further to the south. We made our way out to the old casino, which was in better shape than out last visit, as there was now a new roof on the old frame building, wich was only that at our last visit, a frame. We went through the Casino and then walked down to the beach and headed south. We walked south through Ocean Grove section of the beach to Bradley Beach and then Avon By The Sea, We had to come up from the beach when we reached the outlet of the Shark River to use the bridge across on the road. The bridge was up to allow a vessel to pass under when we got there so we waited a bit. On the other side we were now in Belmar NJ, and headed back onto the beach to the south. As we continued south, we were joined soon by my old friend Matthew "Henry" Fenimore who walked with us for a while, and we headed up into town to visit with his parents who recently had moved to Belmar. His father, John Fenimore, was my freshmen highschool Honors English teacher. We visited with them and hung out for a bit which was fun, and then moved on. We headed back out to the beach and walked south to Spring Lake where we decided to stop this time to turn back, but now before taking a much needed terrific swim in the ocean. I found that once again I was the furthest out of the group. We headed in and used the restrooms, and then began heading back. Cathy and Amish Paul were waiting for us here on a blanket. We walked the boardwalk back from here through the towns and such. Iannis told us about how all of the original boardwalks (save for a few sections) were destroyed by a Hurrican years ago, and so now we were walking sometimes boardwalks of all different kinds, as well as nice new paver walkways. One particular town, probably Ocean Grove, had some pillars identifying the entrance to the town. We also got into some interesting discussions on evolution, plate tectonics, and various other things which made the time fly by. Wyatt teased Captain Soup relentlessly about his love of football and his choice of reading material, as he had just bought a copy of the NY Post with something about sperm on the cover and a picture of a baby with a viking helmet. For the entire remainder of the hike Wyatt laid it on him about every intricasy of the paper and how it was a bad choice. Quite funny. When we got back to the cars after passing Wesley Lake again, we walked up the road to a place for some Spanish food, but it was'nt very good. DJ Ray only had an ATM card so I walked with him to a pizza place, and as it turned out he was probably better off with his choice. We waited for the train and then headed back to our end at Perth Amboy, quite a fun weekend.
