 Hike #171

This was yet another I still have'nt recovered the journal from yet...but I remember it really well.

The week prior to this I actually had to cancel a hike. The reason for this was an unfortunite accident I'd had while working at Taylor Rental.

It was near the end of the day, and we were always hurrying around to get things done there at that time, and we had been servicing a large Bobcat Skid Steer machine with a grapple attatchment on the front near the back exit of the place. I was hastily walking fast out the back when I tripped on a piece of plywood we would use to lay on to avoid laying in the rocks, and I went forward jabbing my right shin into the spike of the grapple. The spike cut my skin right to the bone, and then slipped around it into my leg. It was bleeding like crazy and it felt like a giant pinch. I got stuck going to the hospital. Cathy drove me and I was there from about 6 pm on a Wednesday evening until the wee hours of the morning. On that next Sunday I was going to do a hike, and John Iskrant showed up to join me, but he did'nt get the cancellation notice on time. I felt awful having to tell him it was cancelled, but I was'nt even supposed to be walking yet.

After a couple of days I guess I was'nt taking it easy enough. They went to take the staples out, and my cut began pulling apart. They had to put these tape ones on for a while and cover it over for several more days.

Still, like so many other times I've been injured, the next week I was right back out there. Only my buddy Amit joined me, which was fine.

We started at the Tekening Preserve and hiked back to Oxford for a 15 mile hike. The only noteworthy thing in Tekening I think was the existance of a new foot bridge. We walked the road from there through Riverton into Belvidere, then took the former Bel Del Railroad from Belvidere south to the Lehigh and Hudson River. We were able to follow it to Bridgeville with no problems, and we even took a side trip and stopped by the five acres flea market there before continueing on to Pequest. We then switched to the Warren Railroad back into Oxford to finish the hike.

Amit and I had been jogging together a bit around this time, and it felt bad to not be able to keep up with him, but it was alright. Amit is an EMT and has always looked out for my well being, so I'm glad it was him there on this occasion. And my staples did'nt pull out!

My leg when I cut it. It had to be taped at the bottom because it started to reopen when they removed the staples.
